Architecture without assumptions

The UK based architecture team takes a different approach to projects, bringing together creative thinkers with a wide range of specialist experience across retail, leisure, the public sector, food and beverage, pharma and life sciences.

How we work

As a  group of designers and technicians we’re just as comfortable working through concepts as we are getting into the detail needed to make them happen, on time and on budget. If you want something a bit different,  but still achievable and well thought through, we are your ideal design partner.

We challenge assumptions, ask questions others might not, and look for better ways of doing things when it genuinely benefits the project. Clients come back to us because of how we work. We stay involved, and keep things moving without overcomplicating them. Even complex projects are delivered with clear thought, collaboration, and close attention to cost, programme, and continuity.

Design that starts with how a space is used

We design around use. How people move through a space, how teams interact, and what needs to happen day to day. That informs layout, flow, and feel, from light and ventilation through to material choices. In other settings, it may mean supporting learning, responding to changing retail and leisure trends, bringing people together, or meeting the expectations people now have of shared environments.

Sustainable and circular design

Sustainability, resilence and circular thinking are considered throughout the design process. We think carefully about materials, energy use, longevity, and how spaces can continue to perform as needs change. We plan for adaptability from the outset, reducing unnecessary waste and helping buildings stay relevant for longer.

Architecture for manufacturing, pharma and life sciences

Where manufacturing is involved, we work closely with clients and equipment suppliers to create environments that support the product, the machinery and the people using them day to day. That includes everything from workflow, compliance and hygienic design through to the overall ambience and working environment within the space. Across pharma and life sciences projects, we understand the demands of laboratories, cleanrooms and highly regulated environments.

Digital tools that manage cost and programme

We use digital tools to test ideas early, coordinate across teams, and reduce unnecessary waste. It helps manage cost and programme while making better use of materials and resources. The same approach supports projects facing regulatory pressures or supply chain challenges, with clear advice and steady management throughout.

Our services include:

  • Feasibility studies
  • Concept and detailed design
  • Options appraisal
  • Planning support
  • Principal Designer services for CDM and Building Regulations
  • Building regulations compliance
  • Client side project management
  • BIM to ISO19650 standards
  • Carbon lifecycle assessments
  • Visualisation
  • Virtual reality and on site augmented reality

We stay alongside clients through the process, offering input where it is needed and making sure decisions are understood. As part of NIRAS, we can also bring in wider expertise across engineering and construction when required, while keeping that close working relationship.

The result is a space that works as it should, supports the people using it, and continues to do so as needs change
