A multi-national company with a local feel – Jacopo Renzi’s journey with NIRAS

Jacopo Renzi is one of the many international colleagues who have joined us here at NIRAS, and like many of them, he originally came to Denmark for the educational quality, got to know about NIRAS, and stayed for the opportunity to grow professionally and personally alongside some of the best in the field.

Jacopo comes from Italy and had finished his Bachelor’s at the university of Padova when he started contemplating taking his next step in a new environment. A friend of his recommended that he look into DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and shortly thereafter, the decision to move was made.

“The university experience is very different than in Padova, at DTU you have much more contact with companies, clients, and the business world in general. This is a big plus because it prepares you better for the world you’re about to go into.”

Room for growth

In his two years here as a student assistant, Jacopo has worked with simulation and logistics in NIRAS’ Logistics & Supply Chain department (part of Life Science Process Design). Here, he has done simulations of e.g. hospital logistics and production processes working with optimisation tools to enhance supply chain management. In his time here, he has been introduced to the culture here at NIRAS, the way we collaborate, and the focus on professional and personal growth which, as he puts it, is a clear priority:

“NIRAS is a big, multi-national company but you don’t feel like you’re just a number here. You’re a person whose professional opinion is valued, and there’s a big focus on your growth and well-being”. There’s room for improvement and development, people have a yearly plan for their professional progress, which gives you the flexibility to become the best version of yourself.”

The local feel is something Jacopo considers a rare find in large-scale international companies. It’s a quality that allows for people from all corners of the map to feel comfortable and welcome at the workplace, and when you’re new to the country and the culture, that’s something you value.

Knowledge is key

Wanting the best for yourself and your education has been the biggest driver for Jacopo. Working with people who are the best at what they do not only inspires but allows for a steep learning curve – provided that the environment is one of learning and collaboration, of course.

“At NIRAS, people know their stuff, they’re experts – there’s real knowledge here and there’s a solid foundation. It creates a good working environment but it also generates new customers and makes for an interesting workday. There’s also a lot of learning from senior colleagues and focus on how we work better together. Here, you get a lot of responsibility, but you’re not thrown in the deep end without a life jacket.”

A new chapter

The focus on new knowledge and professional growth has presented new opportunities here at the end of Jacopo’s Master’s studies. He will therefore be joining the NIRAS Life Science & Food Graduate Programme, which is a tailored to young graduates who are stepping into full-scale work life.

“The graduate programme is a great way to build a bridge between student life and full-scale work-life, and it allows me to continue my journey with NIRAS, but with a focus on giving me the best possible transition while maximising my skills and knowledge. I haven’t heard of many companies that has this kind of focus on enabling young professionals to transition from student to full-time employee, and it’s a perfect opportunity for me to grow.”

We’re excited to see where Jacopo’s journey with NIRAS will take him, and happy that he wants to grow with us.
