NIRAS and Avioxx partner for next-generation SAF facilities
News
We’re proud to be working with Avioxx as they take a major step toward full-scale deployment of their integrated Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) systems.
Avioxx has selected NIRAS as its engineering, design and construction partner for the development of next-generation waste-to-jet-fuel plants in the United Kingdom, starting with verification and design review activities.
Avioxx is a UK clean-tech company developing waste-to-molecule Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) systems that convert non-recyclable waste into high-quality jet fuel, diesel, and gasoline. By integrating gasification, Fischer–Tropsch synthesis, electrolysis, and solid oxide fuel cells, Avioxx produces low-carbon fuels without reliance on external power.
The collaboration brings together Avioxx’s innovative SAF technology and NIRAS’s global expertise in decarbonisation, renewable energy, and complex industrial infrastructure. It marks a major step toward full-scale deployment of Avioxx’s integrated SAF systems, beginning with a 5,000 tonne-per-year demonstration facility and a 32,000 tonne-per-year commercial plant blueprint.
NIRAS will provide design, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) development input – validating Avioxx’s technology integration and preparing the basis of design for future plant delivery across the UK and Europe.
Jim Buston, Market Director at NIRAS, said:
“We’re excited to work with Avioxx on such an innovative and forward-looking project. The combination of waste conversion, solid oxide fuel cell power, and Fischer–Tropsch synthesis represents a bold new step in sustainable fuel production. Our shared focus on practical, scalable solutions makes this partnership a natural fit.”
Chris Hancock, Director at Avioxx, said:
“Partnering with NIRAS is a milestone for Avioxx. Their international experience, engineering excellence, and strong sustainability culture align perfectly with our vision to make energy-independent, waste-based SAF a commercial reality. This partnership gives our investors and partners the confidence that our projects will meet the highest technical and environmental standards.”
The partnership underlines both companies’ commitment to working with world-class collaborators to accelerate the UK’s transition to net zero.
