Six years since NIRAS made its first steps into the Taiwanese offshore wind market, the expanding team has relocated to a new office in Taipei’s World Trade Centre next to the iconic Taipei 101.

A regional hub for offshore wind development

The strong wind resource in the Taiwan Straits, coupled with government's commitment has created an embryonic regional hub for offshore wind development in Taiwan. This has created significant interest for international and local developers and fund managers. Responding to these opportunities, NIRAS, with over 25 years of experience in the offshore wind industry, has delivered projects locally since 2012 helping clients through providing services including owner’s engineering, environmental assessment and consenting, structural design, metocean studies, harbour engineering, and project management.

As the demand grew NIRAS officially established an office presence in 2016:
“Local presence has been our top priority as it ensures successful transfer of our knowledge from Europe to the emerging Taiwanese offshore wind market. We were keen to dedicate resources and have built a strong network of industrial friends, partners and clients here in Taiwan”, quoted Tore Lucht, Head of Department, Offshore Wind.

A growing local staff required a larger office

The market success is reflected on the number of local staff as it quadrupled since the establishment of Taiwan office, driving the requirement for a new larger office space. A house opening event to celebrate the opening of the new office took place in October hosting dozens of guests representing clients, business partners and governmental agencies.  Chung-Yung Lu, CEO of NIRAS Taiwan, commented at the event:
“We are glad to take this chance to celebrate all the great achievements that have been made together with our clients. More importantly, it also demonstrates again our commitment to the Taiwanese market and our capabilities”.

With a growing project team, NIRAS strengthens its local presence in Taiwan.

Part of the global renewable energy revolution

As a multinational enterprise, NIRAS seeks to make contributions through business solutions everywhere it goes. The services offered by NIRAS’s Taiwanese team aims to assist realizing the island’s energy transition goal – from traditional energy sources to a portfolio comprising of 20 percent generated from renewable energy. These efforts resonate with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 7 (SDG7): Affordable and Clean Energy. On the journey to realizing this energy transition, NIRAS Taiwan is helping to strike the balance between development and environmental protection. The environmental related services NIRAS offers in Taiwan, including impact assessment and monitoring and are framed by SDG14: Life below water.

The NIRAS group is proud to be involved with the global renewable energy revolution and sees Taiwan at the forefront of the next wave in sustainable energy production.
