NIRAS provides technical expertise to DG DEVCO for implementation of a Rights Based Approach to development with special focus on gender equality.
NIRAS will manage the new project on the Rights Based Approach (RBA) and gender mainstreaming in the EU development cooperation.
The project aims to improve the capacities of DG DEVCO and EU Delegations across the world in mainstreaming the Rights Based Approach and gender equality in all EU funded development cooperation projects. Furthermore, we will aim to develop a shared vision on integration of the gender equality approach and the RBA.
Our TA team consists of five highly experienced key experts, including our Team Leader Dr Saskia Ravesloot and four experts on gender mainstreaming and RBA, covering different regional experience and language skills: Ms Bodil Warming; Ms Marjaana Raf; Ms Sonia Sanz Ventin; and Dr Sepideh Labani.
The team has been selected based on their complementary professional skills, broad regional background, extensive experience in providing expert services in different sectors of EU development cooperation and capacity to deliver results.

“At this moment, I see two main challenges; first, at operational level: Building a team at distance. Fortunately we can count on new technologies, providing us means to keep in touch at any time, on a regular basis.
A second challenge relates to the project objectives: these are ambitious. We will assure that both discourses, the Rights Based Approach and Gender Mainstreaming, are considered in the most comprehensive way, enabling a joint approach in the future.
As a team we will facilitate this process, enabling key stakeholders to strengthen the impact of the Rights Based Approach and Gender Mainstreaming in EU Development Cooperation.”
The project team will work in close cooperation with the DG DEVCO Unit B1 and will provide a strong support mechanism for the EU staff in Brussels. The activities will be implemented in the period from 2018 to 2020.
