CEO, Carsten Toft Boesen is particularly thrilled that NIRAS managed to strengthen its foothold in the attractive Norwegian market in 2016

Strong performance in construction and progress in Norway

After displaying excellent top and bottom line figures, NIRAS is ready for the merger with ALECTIA.

In 2016, revenue came out at DKK 1.5 billion. Own production constituted DKK 1.1 billion, corresponding to a 10 percent increase. With an operating profit of DKK 56 million, NIRAS sets a new record in revenue and earnings – and that is in a year, when growth led NIRAS to expand or move into new premises at most of its offices in Denmark. The move impacted the accounts adversely due to non-recurring expenses of just over DKK 11 million.

For 2016, construction contributed decisively to the positive revenue and earnings.
‘Improved top and bottom lines show that we have our sales and operations under control. Market conditions differed widely across our business areas. However, a tremendous effort by all our employees means that we perform excellently in all areas. Another reason for our performance is that our risk management is working. 2016 was another year in which we did not experience any significant losses on individual projects,’ says NIRAS’ CEO, Carsten Toft Boesen.

Strengthened Norwegian foothold
The CEO is particularly thrilled that NIRAS managed to strengthen its foothold in the attractive Norwegian market in 2016 by e.g. winning several, large infrastructure projects: ‘Once they are completed, I believe that we will have planned and designed more kilometres of motorway in Norway than we have in Denmark. With investments running into billions in Norwegian infrastructure in the coming years, this will remain a crucial market in the future. At the same time, it shows that our strategy where our specialists cooperate across Scandinavia adds value for our customers and generates business for us’, says NIRAS’ CEO.

Merger with ALECTIA
Immediately before the turn of the year, NIRAS and ALECTIA announced that they had reached an agreement to merge the two companies. The new company will continue under the name of NIRAS and Carsten Toft Boesen will remain as CEO. All necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained and the merger is expected to be realised in April 2017. Then comes the work of integrating the two companies. After the merger, NIRAS will have more than 2,100 employees, 1,500 of which will be located in Denmark.

‘We will have a stronger foundation for the future. Professionally, in the market and financially. We will gain a stronger position in the market, offering a more complete range of services and stronger professional environments. As consultants, we must be able to deliver people with expertise in a wide range of areas. I am certain that the merger will benefit our customers and thereby strengthen our market position. Instead of an acquisition, which would have tapped into our financial reserves, we now have the sum of two well-consolidated companies and are able to pursue our common growth strategy in which we will grow in particularly Norway and Sweden,’ says Carsten Toft Boesen.
