NIRAS has initiated a site investigation program, based upon site data such as wind resources, desk studies, interviews and other ways of obtaining relevant information regarding the site.
Geophysical survey
Taking the potential offshore wind farm layouts into account a geophysical survey is suggested to be carried out. We specify the geophysical investigation program and handle the contractual part as well as onsite monitoring. The survey is to be implemented in the planning of the boring campaign and to be implemented in the EIA report. The survey further provides information on the base for the foundations.
Geotechnical investigations
Based upon the geophysical survey we plan the geotechnical investigations. Number and types of borings and expected laboratory tests to be carried out are specified by us. We plan and conduct the laboratory tests and prepare reports for design and installation purposes. In case of contaminated soil special attention to the handling of this will be taken into account. We handle the contractual part as well as the on site monitoring.
Modelling and analyses
As the offshore wind farms move to deeper and less sheltered sites, the importance of high quality metocean data becomes increasingly important. Wind, wave, current and tidal data varies in type and origin from historical data to data from dedicated field campaigns and modelled and remote sensed data.
The data typically needs to be processed by means of numerical modelling and statistical analyses in order to be applicable for the specific project site. We transform the comprehensive data sets into an easily accessible design basis to be used by designers, authorities, decision makes, contractors etc.
Our extensive experience in data analysis and application of numerical mathematical modelling is gained from offshore wind farm projects as well as ports, coastal, and other offshore projects.
When supplementary field data are required we have the expertise to plan and conduct field monitoring campaigns.
