Research and Development

Since the 1980s DEMEX has been an active partner in international research and development programmes, such as European Co-operation for the Long-term in Defence (EUCLID), the EC Programmes LIFE and CITY OF TOMORROW, together with some of the leading universities, institutes and private companies in Europe.

In the last decade we participated in a number of projects for EUCLID, aiming to increase knowledge within the field of lightweight armour. Within these projects we were responsible for the computer programming and design of a simulation package for use in the dimensioning and optimisation of lightweight armouring. This software is able to simulate the impact of a projectile on composite armour material.

Recently, research in the field of blast protection has led to the introduction of a unique new technology for the blast protection of vehicles and structures based on the crushing of ceramic particles. The technology, known as CRUSHMAT®, has been developed and patented by DEMEX.

In 2005 a Ph.D. Study of the Blast Protection of Building Structures was started in co-operation with the Technical University of Denmark.
