In 2004 NIRAS added a number of international qualifications to its
existing competencies. As a result of the acquisition of DEMEX our services
now include explosives engineering, control of shock and vibrations,
structural dynamics, protection against weapon effects, demilitarisation,
demolition and risk management. These services greatly complement what we
already offer in the areas of civil works, industry and environmental
sciences.
International recognition
Since its foundation in 1978 DEMEX has achieved substantial international
recognition by carrying out consulting services related to dynamics,
safety, security and environmental management around the world.
DEMEX works for and co-operates with private companies, such as BAE
Systems, Siemens, MAERSK LINE/A.P. Moller and 3M, as well as with major
public organisations and governmental institutions, such as the World Bank,
EU, UNDP, UNHCR, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Danish
Ministry of Defence and the Royal Danish Navy.
Since the 1980s DEMEX has been an active partner in international research
and development programmes, such as European Co-operation for the Long-term
in Defence (EUCLID), the EC Programmes LIFE and CITY OF TOMORROW, together
with some of the leading universities, institutes and private companies in
Europe.
In 2005 a Ph.D. Study of Blast Protection of Building Structures was
started in co-operation with the Technical University of Denmark.

of buildings and structures against terror actions.
