Bridges and tunnels are essential elements in our society. NIRAS has great
competence in this field and offers consultancy within the following
areas:
-
Bridges, over and under passes, for roads, railways, and fauna passages
-
Tunnels for roads and railways, defined as larger underground tunnels
The range of projects span over the full life-cycle – from the idea,
feasibility study, concept and the planning phase, over designing,
supervision, and building management to operation and maintenance,
renovation, reinforcement and finally to demolition and replacement of the
structures. These operations have been divided into the following
professional fields:
-
New bridges and tunnels – new design
-
Existing bridges and tunnels – inspection, rehabilitation, renovation,
and strengthening
NIRAS applies sound engineering principles based on many years of
experience. The latest experiences from projects with operation and
maintenance, inspection, and renovation of existing structures are thus
implemented in the design of new bridges and structures.
Basically, NIRAS performs the tasks on the basis of existing knowledge and
competences achieved through project work. NIRAS is, however, not
restrained by customary solutions, and often involve innovative and
creative alternatives.
Generally, NIRAS focuses on “full solutions”, in that the essential aspects
such as economy, environment, aesthetics, function, technique, and
execution are considered and adapted to each individual project.
Consulting on bridge and tunnel constructions often requires a
multi-disciplinary knowledge beyond the professional key skills. In this
field, NIRAS’ broadness and core competences within environment, building,
and infrastructure are of great value, and include consultancy on
geotechnical investigation, environmental investigation, EIA reports,
foundation, hydraulic investigations, pipelines and supply systems,
material technology, risk assessments, transport economy, traffic planning,
road and railway systems.
Clients are the owners/ administrators of the structures, contractors and
development companies in Denmark and abroad.
Design computer programs used in the design works are: AutoCad,
MicroStation, Inroads, Inrails, SofiCad and for calculations (FEM
programs): ROBOT, Miestra, Fiestra, Strudl and LUSAS.
