Assessment of tsunami damages to Sri Lanka

The Asian Development Bank, ADB, has asked NIRAS to assess the extent of damage to ports and coastal protection facilities on the Southern and Eastern coasts of Sri Lanka, which were hit the hardest by the December 2004 tsunami.

“We are thrilled to be able to put to use one of our core competences to assist with the reconstruction of Sri Lanka,” says Carsten Toft Boesen, managing director of NIRAS.

Jesper Harder, head of department, says: “We have worked on ports and coastal protection in Sri Lanka for more than 20 years and have always enjoyed working in the country,” he says.

NIRAS is currently working on several projects in Sri Lanka, financed by the country’s Ministry of Fisheries and ADB. The fact that ADB awarded the tsunami project to NIRAS is an expression of trust in NIRAS, says Carsten Toft Boesen.
