PrintNIRAS and Polish port builders set up a new company
On 1 July a new company saw the light of day in Poland. NIRAS
Portconsult PBP Sp. Z o. o. will have its headquarters in Szczecin (Stettin)
where 20 employees are working on, among other things, a new ferry terminal
in Swinouijscie, port facilities in Szczecin and a terminal in Kazakhstan.
Port orders are the cornerstone of the new company
The company was created on the basis of a successful cooperation between
NIRAS and the Polish company PBP Inwest Sp. Z o. o. “We began in May 2006
by implementing a project on a new container terminal in Szczecin’s busy
port together with PBP and, as project managers and supervisors, we
succeeded in breaking with local tradition by delivering the project at the
agreed price, quality and price”, says Kim Boye who is the chief consultant
and one of NIRAS’ port specialists.
Kim Boye continues: “We agreed that we should apply the positive experience
gained with PBP Inwest to efforts to search for new assignments and to
working together more closely. It is now a joint company with a solid
foundation and the first orders are in place.”
On the actual day, NIRAS Portconsult PBP threw an opening party and Polish,
Danish, Norwegian, German and Russian clients helped us celebrate the
creation of NIRAS Portconsult PBP. “The new company helps cement
NIRAS’ position as the leading technical consulting firm in Poland.
Today, there are over 175 NIRAS employees in Poland who mainly serve the
home market from the four local offices but who also act as a bridgehead to
the markets in Russia and eastern Europe” says NIRAS’ international
director Karol Marcinkowski and he adds: “This extra reinforcement provides
the NIRAS Group with a strong position in the countries around the Baltic
Sea and, as a result, NIRAS is the market leader in a number of areas of
competence. We are well on our way to realising our vision of
creating an exciting consultancy business in the Baltic region.”
