NIRAS director wins Polish achievement award

Karol Marcinkowski, NIRAS’ director of international business, has won one of the most prestigious achievement awards in Poland, the Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski prize.

The prize is awarded to the Polish entrepreneur living outside Poland who has achieved economic success in his or her new country at the same time as he or she has actively been supporting the Polish business community and aiding co-operation between Poland and the new country.

2005 marks the eighth time the Kwiatkowski prize, named after a former Polish minister, has been awarded. The chairman of the prize committee, Polish senator Tadeusz Rzemykowski, is also chairman of the Senate’s committee for Emigration and Polish people abroad.

Karol Marcinkowski was selected by the Polish embassy in Denmark as a candidate for the award. He competed against 27 other entrepreneurs from countries all over the world.

He has lived and worked in Denmark since 1971 and today is a Danish citizen. As an international executive in NIRAS, Karol Marcinkowski has spent the past 10 years building the company’s business abroad – primarily in Poland, where NIRAS Polska today has more than 100 employees.

Lately he has begun to share his extensive experience with Polish and Danish aid organisations. He is a member of the board at the Grete Mikaelsens Fond, which supports homeless families in Poland and was responsible for building a school for homeless children in Poznan.
