PrintNIRAS signs a contract for a television centre in Moscow
NIRAS is to advise the Russian TV company NTV on the construction of a TV and
multimedia centre that will be almost as large as DR Byen (the Danish
broadcasting corporation’s TV and multimedia “city”).
This unique collaboration came about following NIRAS' consultancy on
both the news centre and the concert hall in DR Byen.
The first phase involves the preparation of a feasibility study and the
provision of advice on the preparation of engineering design activities to
the Russian firm of architects and engineers OJSC Mosproject.
Patience paid off
According to Karol Marcinkowski, who is a director at NIRAS and has been
the driving force behind the process, it requires particular persistence
and a special strength of will to enter into contracts in Russia:
“We established contact to Russian NTV as far back as spring 2007 when they
were planning a TV and multimedia centre in Moscow. At that time, the
design of DR’s concert hall was well underway. Representatives of NTV have
visited DR-Byen several times. They were here just before the summer
holiday when NTV's deputy director met DR's head of music and head
of news who kindly provided a guided tour of the whole of DR Byen”, he says
and continues: “In addition, there have been countless trips to Moscow and
meetings with technicians, managers and lawyers so it was wonderful to be
able to present a signed contract on 6 October 2009”.
A need for advanced engineering art
It will be NIRAS’ job to prepare a feasibility study and to act as a kind
of professional advisor, as a designer in selected specialist areas and as
a consultant in general, when local OJCS Mosproject requires additional
specialised skills.
“One of the reasons why NIRAS was selected is that we enjoy performing
ground-breaking engineering art", says Finn Faurholt, head of
department and the project’s director. “We proved this when we designed the
concert hall in 3D. This new large project also imposes great demands on
our creativity and engineering art”, Finn Faurholt concludes.
The contract, which runs into the hundreds of millions, is divided into
several phases and will continue right up to the anticipated opening date
in five years’ time.
NIRAS is to advise the Russian TV company NTV on the construction of a
TV and multimedia centre - slightly smaller than DR Byen and situated close
to the centre of Moscow.
Facts
NIRAS has entered into a consultancy contract with Russian
"Telekompaniya NTV" in connection with the erection of a TV and
multimedia centre. The centre will be situated in the centre of Moscow at
18-22 Novomoskovskaya St.
The new media centre will be constructed in 11 staggered levels and will
house, among other things, radio and TV studios, offices, a control room,
restaurant, foyer and reception. The centre will cover an area of 113,000
m². This is almost the equivalent of the total area of all four of DR
Byen’s segments. However, in Moscow, everything will be collected in one
large building.
NTV (HTB in Cyrillic characters) was established in 1993 and was one of
the first independent TV stations in the new Russia. The TV station already
had over 100 million viewers by 1999 and covered 70% of Russia. Since then,
the company has been taken over by state-owned Gazprom Media and broadcasts
to Russia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Canada and the USA.
