PrintNIRAS and Kualiti Alam is designing a modularised incineration plant
NIRAS has been awarded a contract with Kualiti Alam Sdn. Bhd., the scheduled
waste disposal facility in West Malaysia, for the assistance in design and
supervision of a modularised incineration plant with a capacity of 10,000
tonne per year.
Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd, one of the leaders in the waste management industry
in Malaysia, is a subsidiary of UEM Environment Sdn Bhd, which spearheads
UEM Group's environmental services division.
The fast growing Malaysian economy and the increased focus on the
environmental affects have increased the waste collection in Malaysia
considerable and thus the need for thermal waste treatment capacity. The
environmental focus in the neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia is
similarly increased.
The design of the plant will be prepared together with the Kualiti Alam
project engineering team and the plant is for the most part supposed to be
constructed by local contractors.
The plant will be able to treat all types of incinerable hazardous waste
including chemical waste and hospital waste. The plant will be designed to
meet modern emission standards and is expected to be in operation in
beginning of 2009.
The first Kualiti Alam Modularised Incinerator plant will be set up at the
company’s waste management centre in Bukit Nenas near Seremban, Negeri
Sembilan, Malaysia. Once the first plant is successfully established,
Kualiti Alam will make the plant available for other parties.
NIRAS Chemcontrol designed the Waste Management Centre in 1995.. The Waste
Management Centre has proven to be a major success and the plant is
presently treating more than 80,000 tonne of hazardous waste every year.
NIRAS Chemcontrol has in year 2000 provided two small scale incinerators of
3,000 tone per year each to the Kualiti Alam Waste Management Centre.
