During the recent years, NIRAS has been involved in a big water- and sewerage
project in the Emirates. The project, Water & Sewerage Project is planned
to last until October 2011 with the aim to reduce the waste of fresh water
and reduce the smell and floods from the sewerage. The large project draws on
the competences from most of the divisions in NIRAS.
The basis for being invited is that NIRAS can submit state-of-the art
solutions within the areas of water- and sewerage optimisation. At the same
time, the company contributes with combining the technical aspects with an
overall, holistic management system (HOMIS) supporting the client in
surveying and valuating Best Practise in the systems.
“It is extremely important to differ from the ompetitors by being able to
offer unique, professional competences and solutions in order to be an
attractive partner on this market. NIRAS CAN deliver these competences,
which makes it possible for us to get on in the Emirates”, Carsten Fosvang
(CFo) states, project manager on the project.
Danish Minister promoted knowledge
As a natural prolongation of the active presence in the area,
NIRAS recently participated in the Abu Dhabi mess, World Future Energy
Summit 2009 (WFES) – a conference concerning the future energy and
exploitation.
The conference took place on January 19th to 21st 2009, and NIRAS
participated in a DI-delegation, which also implied other Danish firms as
Danfoss, Logstor (formerly Løgstør Rør), Vestas, Smidt Hammer-Lassens
Tegnestue, Henning Larsens Tegnestue and others.
Carsten Fosvang participated as one of the NIRAS representatives at the
mess and introduced some of the unique solutions within:
-
water- and sewerage projects in the Middle East
-
district cooling and
-
bio-energy and renewable and sustainable energy included CO2 Carbon
Footprint
NIRAS’ solutions attracted intense interest from the attendances.
During the conference, Carsten Fosvang met with Connie Hedegaard, the
Danish Climate Minister, who also participated in the delegation. The
minister showed a big interest in NIRAS’ district cooling concept
(popularly spoken a large central cooling plant for air-condition plants).
Later on the minister submitted a short description of the concept to one
of the leading sheiks.
A green town in Abu Dhabi?
The primary aim of the conference was to discuss the future
energy and its exploitation. Secondary, the project about the new green
town, Masdar, was going to be represented.
The project is based on an ambition of establishing the world’s first CO2-
and energy neutral town. A so-called green town with 50,000 inhabitants.
Renewable and sustainable energy is something the oil states have become
aware of. Among these is Abu Dhabi. Dubai is running out of oil in the
foreseeable future, so renewable and sustainable energy sources have to be
found. What many people do not reckon in, they are in Abu Dhabi (as well as
in the region) aware of green, renewable and sustainable energy – not least
within the governmental organizations.
These years, the Emirates are in full development, which amongst others is
seen by the many cranes all over. The Emirates themselves possess a number
of competences in the superior management plans, but lack highly
professional and technical support from foreign companies.
Taking this into consideration the basis is founded for NIRAS to offer
their competences within bio-energy, renewable and sustainable energy,
district cooling and handling of waste.
“We are visible in the area, and shall continue to be visible and shall do
an intensive sales effort if we want a fair share of this market.
NIRAS attends the energy aspects, the green part with unique
cross-organizational concepts. We are certain that in the long term it can
lead to further projects in the area”, Carsten Fosvang declares.
