Youngsters from Tanzania played soccer with NIRAS as sponsor

NIRAS-sponsored MTWARA’S youth soccer team, FC Vito, from Tanzania competed in the 33rd Helsinki U-11 tournament in Finland in the first week of July. The 11-years old youngsters were positioned third in their group with two wins, one draw and two losses. Teams' top scorer has been Yusufu Hamidu with five goals. Altogether FC Vito has scored 14 goals and allowed 12.

FC Vito Nanyumbu is part of a sports development project jointly run by LiiKE Finland and Sports Development Aid (SDA) in Mtwara. More than 830 youth teams from 28 different countries across the world, including Brazil, Spain, Turkey, Russia and Korea, competed in the championship opening in Helsinki. 

The team is popularly known as Nanyumbu Boys and its 13 players had been training for the past eight months in preparations for the week-long event. 

FC Vito has participated in the Helsinki tournament since 2000. In 2000 and 2006, the team won bronze medals.

The team’s trip is sponsored by Abbasi Exports, CEAL Ltd, Orange Technologies, the Finish Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Finland’s Ministry of Education and Amer Sports, and NIRAS among others.
