The tall facade on its way up

The mounting of the 51-metre high facade construction, which encircles the concert hall’s 310-metre circumference, is under way. As seen in the picture, the northern end is being mounted in its entirety. The facade construction will have a total area equivalent to three football pitches and a weight of 2,000 tonnes (or six fully laden Boeing 747s).

A world-class facade construction

Once completed the facade construction will be a symbol of the most distinguished feat of engineering.

Today the grating construction is the only visible part of the spectacular facade. Later on a cable system will arrive, which will prevent the pillars in the grating system from cracking. After this another cable system will be mounted and the glass facade will be fitted onto it.

A semi-transparent blue cloth will be the last element to be mounted directly onto the steel construction. In the daytime it will envelop the concert hall in a semi-transparent blue canvas and at night it will turn the facade into a screen. Still and moving pictures will be projected directly onto this unique facade from inside the concert hall.
