DR’ s concert hall makes its appearance

Thirteen giant rafters will support the roof of DR’s new concert hall.The first one was fitted on 31st January. It has a span of 43 metres across the hall and two 350-tonne cranes were required to lift it into place. The cranes were transported from Germany on 19 freight lorries and assembled on site two weeks ago. The picture shows the rafter resting on two 17-metres-high pillars, each of which is supported by a so-called perimeter channel. Over the next few months the remaining 45 pillars and 12 rafters will be erected and the roof will acquire its final dimensions of 62 by 43 metres.
