PhotoThe AEClaboratory and the concrete specialists are working together with the port engineers on the rehabilitation of Berth 16, 17 and 18 in the Port of Mombasa.

The project include a detailed condition survey of

  • 600 steel piles and 500 concrete piles – above and underneath the water
  • Fenders
  • Concrete deck with facilities for a portal crane
  • Pavement

Investigations include field measurements such as NDT measurements, drawings with registrations and laboratory investigations of concrete samples such as petrographical examinations, cylinder strength etc. The condition survey includes an estimate of the load bearing capacity.

On the basis of the condition survey a preliminary design, economical estimate and detailed design are prepared before the project is executed and NIRAS are in charge of the supervision.

NIRAS are experienced from several rehabilitation projects all over the world, including rehabilitation of the Kingston Wharfs in Jamaica, 3 Berths in Freetown Port Sierra Leone and rehabilitation of the Maputo Port in Mozambique.
