Disposal of Brent Spar, North Sea

In cooperation with Em. Z. Svitzer and A.P. Møller Group, DEMEX/NIRAS performed a proposal to Maersk Company Ltd. concerning the Brent Spar offshore abandon­ment. We were responsible for the explosive engineering part of the project, i.e. the explosive engin­eering, planning, training of explosive team and installation of explosives in the Spar as well as cutting the mooring cables by use of explos­ive charges and sinking of the Spar by detonation of the installed explosive charges. The propo­sal included health and safety management. Due to political reasons, the project was stopped.
