NIRAS has merged with Swedish Ramboll Natura AB, a leading supplier of natural resource and environmental services to Sida (The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency). Ramboll Natura AB has major activities in Sweden, Africa and Asia and expects a turnover of SEK 65 million in 2011.
This move is a natural extension of NIRAS’ acquisition of a portfolio of development projects from Ramboll Finland OY earlier in the year and is an integral part of NIRAS’ vision to become a leading global provider of consultancy services that contribute to the solution of global challenges in food security, natural resources, energy and climate.
NIRAS strengthens its position
The merger strengthens NIRAS’ position in the field of development aid from Sweden and Finland in particular. However, it will also provide increasing opportunities in development aid from Switzerland, Germany and various international multilateral development aid agencies. NIRAS is the leading consultant for Danida in Denmark, the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and, following this merger, one of the leading consultants to Sida in Sweden. Moreover, NIRAS provides important consultancy services to the EU, the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank. NIRAS’ development aid consultancy services are handled from 16 offices in Europe, Africa and Asia.
“The merger between NIRAS and Ramboll’s Swedish and Finnish development aid activities will strengthen NIRAS’ current position on the market. The combination of the staff, experts and project portfolio of the two companies will provide NIRAS’ clients with both new and improved services as well as enhances global presence,” says Markus Davelid, international director at NIRAS.
New opportunities for clients
“We see great potential in this integration into NIRAS. We can strengthen NIRAS’ activities in Sweden as well as our environmental activities and training programmes. In addition, the merger with NIRAS will provide us with a wealth of new opportunities for clients, partners and staff alike,” says Stina Mossberg, Managing Director of Ramboll Natura AB.
The two acquisitions will form two new expertise areas in NIRAS: Science, Technology and Innovation, which supports business incubation and knowledge development in developing countries, and International Training Programmes, which supports the training of staff in developing countries in disciplines such as agriculture, forestry, water and environment. Both areas open up opportunities for significant growth and all-round consultancy solutions to support development in developing countries.
The acquisitions will also strengthen NIRAS’ business areas within Agriculture, Agribusiness and Forestry within which NIRAS has established itself as one of the leading companies in Europe.
