NIRAS has won a contract for engineering consultancy services in the station district belonging to Carlsberg City.
The project is both large and exciting. NIRAS is looking forward to helping Carlsberg realise their vision to create an active and diversified quarter. The station district will house teaching buildings (approx. 54,000 m2), a large tower block with apartments (approx. 12,000 m2), other residences (ca. 2,000 m2), areas on the ground floor for grocery shopping, retail outlets, cafés and similar premises (approx. 7,000 m2) and areas for commerce (approx. 5,000 m2). The new construction project will be incorporated into the existing “Hanging Gardens”, a listed building covering 7,500 m2. In addition, an underground car park will be built in two storeys. Thus, total floor space will amount to 110.000 m2.
French sub-consultant
NIRAS has chosen to work with Terrell, a French engineering company. The reason for this is that Terrell is an absolute expert in the construction of high-rise buildings. The tower block that will be erected in Carlsberg City will be 100 m tall. NIRAS worked with Terrell during the construction of the DR concert hall and the cooperation was always constructive.
Team of architects
NIRAS will work with a team of five of the country’s most competent architects: Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, Christensen & Co Architects, COBE, EFFEKT and Nord Architects. Carlsberg chose this approach to add diversity to the building project. Two landscape architects are also included in the designer team: Masu Planning and WAW.
Many disciplines will be brought into play
Due to its size, the project will incorporate many different engineering disciplines. This means that NIRAS will draw broadly on all of our skills and experts. We are now faced with the immense task of preparing the plot. The existing houses need to be demolished, therefore building work cannot begin before autumn 2012. The building will be ready for occupancy in January 2016.
