In October 2009, NIRAS entered into a consultancy contract with Russian "Telekompaniya NTV" to provide services in connection with the erection of a broadcasting centre in the heart of Moscow.
The new broadcasting centre will be one large building that will house, among other things, news studios, TV studios, offices, a control rooms, restaurant, foyer and reception. The centre will contain two underground levels and nine levels above the ground. The total gross area including basement amounts to 70,000 m².
NTV (HTB in Cyrillic characters) was established in 1993 and was one of the first independent TV stations in the new Russia. The TV station already had over 100 million viewers by 1999 and covered 70% of Russia. Since then, the company has been taken over by state-owned Gazprom Media and broadcasts to nine time zones in Russia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Canada and the USA.
Finn Faurholt, head of department and the project’s director, explains why NIRAS won the project: "One of the reasons why NIRAS was selected is that we enjoy performing ground-breaking engineering art. We proved this when we designed the concert hall in 3D. This new large project also imposes great demands on our creativity and engineering art."
The budget for the total plan of the project runs into the hundreds of millions Euros. The contract is divided into several phases and will continue right up to the anticipated opening date in 2015. In the first main phase, NIRAS' tasks involve the preparation of a feasibility study, the preparation of the concept design, and the development of technical specifications. In the second main phase, our tasks includes the development of the acoustics and the multi media project parts for the authorities in Moscow. Furthermore, NIRAS provides engineering and architectural consulting with regard to quality assurance and the compliance of legislation in the development of the total building design.
