Green planning and management in the rural as well as urban landscape influence a number of players, stakeholders and themes attached to urban spaces, villages, agriculture, landscape, nature, cultural heritage, environment and rural district development.
Therefore, interaction between many interests is important when formulating policies and strategies for developing and managing green spaces. An overall municipal green strategy is a good starting point. This could include development potentials and protection interests – which can constitute the green backbone in the future municipal landscape.
NIRAS includes both blue and green areas in our strategies and policies. We see water as an important element, and we see the challenges of securing water quality, outdoor life opportunities near water as well as climate adaptation as an integrated part of formulating strategic goals for future development.
NIRAS assists in creating a good dialogue and process to enable the formulation of policies for green spaces; a strategic process which can ensure coherence between objectives and concrete actions. In the process, involving the public, other stakeholders and politicians is important in order to create local support, acceptance and ownership.
