Closing ceremony of EU funded project "Support to Sustainable Regional Development" came to an end after 3.5 years In December 2011, the EU funded project "Support to Sustainable Regional Development" came to an end after 3.5 years. As a member of the consortium consisting of Grontmij A/S, NIRAS AB and ICON Institut GmbH, NIRAS provided a large part of the team of national consultants who have been working on the project in close collaboration with civil society, central and regional administrations and other stakeholders.
The overall objective of the project was to upgrade regional policy in Ukraine by extending the EU Regional Development policy. The closing ceremony of the project was held in Kyiv on the 8th of December in the form of a round table, which brought together representatives of the key national and regional level institutions responsible for regional development policy formulation and implementation, non-governmental organisations, research institutions, and project experts.
Among the speakers was José Roman Leon Lora, Head of Operations for Sustainable development: economic/trade and territorial in the EU Delegation in Kyiv. He acknowledged the results of the project in the approximation of Ukrainian regional policies to the EU policies, and emphasized that the EU will continue to assist Ukraine in the field of regional development - one of the main priorities of the EU.
The event was covered by Ukrainian media and a video in Ukrainian is available here.
