Public sector support and institutional development
An effective, efficient, transparent and accountable public sector is a key factor in fighting poverty, in achieving democratization and in securing respect of human rights. Transparency and accountability are also key tools in the fight against corruption. Public institutions with clarity about their role and their objectives, civil servants with the needed knowledge and the required ownership to perform their duties, and a public administration closer to its citizens are required to achieve a well functioning public sector.
NIRAS provides support to the public sector service delivery at the national, regional and local level. Such institutional support and capacity building help local, regional and national administrations achieve principles of good governance, democratization and respect of human rights in a number of countries worldwide.
Democratization and decentralization, rule of law, public financial management, support to public service delivery and compliance with international standards and legislation including EU approximation are some of our core competencies.
