Fragile states

Support to fragile states and post-conflict areas

NIRAS works on governance in a number of fragile states sharing characteristics such as weak governance structures, extreme poverty, and limited capacity to deal with shocks from both conflicts and natural disasters.

We are working to improve governance structures in both the government and civil society domains as this is a key fundamental driver for development especially in post conflict areas and fragile states.

We offer a wide range of consulting services combining technical competences with our profound understanding and experiences from complex and fragile environments. Our approach to good governance, human rights and democratisation is on delivering these programmes in a well coordinated effort along side other interventions such as: stabilisation and security; promotion of improved livelihoods and economic opportunities; conflict prevention; and regional conflict management.

We emphasize on delivering gender, age and diversity sensitive development assistance which addresses the particular need of vulnerable groups in all our programmes. Furthermore, we follow the principles for good international engagement in fragile states and situations set by the OECD-DAC and adhere to the Paris Declaration on aid effectiveness.
