Environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an important and usually mandatory element in all major infrastructure projects and increasingly, policies, plans and strategies are also subjected to environmental and social assessments, for example through Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs).
NIRAS has very strong competences in this field, and we have conducted numerous EIAs for large scale infrastructure projects including several major harbour projects in Denmark, large windfarms in the UK, road projects in Denmark, Latvia and Ethiopia. We have conducted SEAs of municipal development plans, harbour development plans, and waste water plans.
NIRAS also does training in this field, implementing courses in Environmental mainstreaming for participants from Danida cooperation countries. In Zambia, we recently developed a SEA / Environmental mainstreaming course for the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources.
